Record Lock Trace Addon for Dynamics GP

Natively, Dynamics GP doesn't always do a good job of enabling users to resolve common issues on their own.  A classic example of this is the prompt displayed when attempting to access a record that is locked by another user.  By default, as a user you are presented with the very generic message:

This is the message presented when attempting to access a document that is locked by another user in Sales Transaction Entry.  Now, you can download the free Record Lock Tracing addon for Dynamics GP (Tested on v10 and GP2010) that will replace this generic message with a message that includes the specific user that has the record locked:

This has already solved some headaches for some of my clients eliminating the need to contact their internal IT department in order to determine which user has a record locked.  This is particularly useful during periods with heightened urgency such as when processing shipments and invoices at month end.

This can be extended to include other transactions such as Purchase Orders.  I'm happy to build on this further if there is demand for it.  Please leave me a comment or send me an e-mail and let me know how I might extend this to add value for you.

I'd love to see this extended into the POP and MFG modules of GP. There's been many an instance where users have claimed "I'm definitely not in 'there'" and this would be a huge help in zeroing in on the culprit.

Dan,

This utility already works in POP. Check out the product page at http://mbsguru.blogspot.com/p/lock-trace-utility-for-dynamics-gp.html.

Where specifically would this be useful to you in the MFG suite? I'm happy to extend it accordingly.

Thanks,

MJ

Michael,

I finally remembered to take another look at this add on for GP. I have it installed onto a few workstations (into the Addins folder in GP) and the About information appears in the Additional dropdown menu, however the "This transaction is being edited by another user" message appears instead of the user ID. Any idea as to why it might not be working?

Thanks

I'm having the same problem as Dan is where the module is showing up in the Additional dropdown menu but when using it on a locked PO I get the saem generic "Another User" message. Can you share your script for tracking down which PO is locked? I only see the Locked Sales Order script on your site.

Thanks!
John

Dan and Anonymous,

I think I might have found the source of this problem. Can you check to see if there is an activity record for the user that has the transaction locked when this happens? If there isn't an activity record the system cannot tell who has it locked.

Please let me know if that's the problem and I will fix it.

Thanks,

Michael

Can I echo Dan's request to add this feature to the Manufacturing module. The number one complaint I get is who is using manufacturing order # 12345.

Thanks,

Should this work on a modified SOP Transaction Entry Window?

Is there a trick to using it with a modified SOP Transaction Entry window?
